Skinfades & Tapers

Precision fades with seamless blending. One of the most requested cuts at our Penrith barbershop.

What Is a Skinfade?

A skinfade is where the sides and back are gradually blended down to the skin, giving you a clean, sharp contrast with the longer hair on top. It's one of the most popular styles we do at Barbers Penrith, and for good reason. Done well, it looks sharp and grows out cleanly over the next few weeks.

The key to a great skinfade is the blending. There should be no visible lines or steps between the different lengths. It takes a steady hand, a good eye and genuine experience to get that seamless gradient from skin to length, which is exactly what Andrew and Isaac deliver every time.

Skinfade vs Taper. What's the Difference?

Both styles use graduated blending on the sides and back, but they differ in how far down they go.

A skinfade blends all the way down to bare skin, usually around the ears and neckline. It gives a bold, modern look with maximum contrast between the sides and the top.

A taper fade is more subtle. The hair gets shorter towards the bottom but doesn't go all the way to skin. It's a cleaner, slightly more conservative option that still looks sharp without the high-contrast finish.

Not sure which one's for you? Just ask when you're in. We'll have a chat about what works best for your hair type, face shape and the look you're going for.

The Process

A great fade takes time and care. Here's how we do it at Barbers Penrith.

1. Consultation

We'll have a quick chat about what you're after. High fade, mid fade or low? Skinfade or taper? Got a photo on your phone? That always helps. We'll let you know what works best for your hair texture and head shape.

2. Setting the Guidelines

Your barber sets the fade line and the length on top, building the framework for the cut. Getting this bit right means everything blends naturally from there.

3. Blending

This is where the skill shows. Using a combination of clippers and trimmers at multiple guard lengths, your barber works through the transition zones to create that seamless gradient with no harsh lines.

4. Finishing

The neckline and edges are cleaned up with a straight edge for crisp definition. We'll style the top, check every angle and make sure you're completely satisfied before you leave the chair.
